Paris Transportation: Understanding Orly's Ground-Transportation

Orly Airport (ORY) is the second-most important airport in Paris and serves dozens of airlines connecting different cities in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

The airport is located 14 KM south of central Paris and has two terminals: Orly-Sud and Orly-Quest. The good side with the terminals is that they are small thus easy to navigate.

Orly has great ground-transportation into Paris city. Ground-transportation options include Orlyval train, bus lines, taxis, and shuttle vans.

Orlyval train

The trains are driverless and connect Orly-Sud. They also connect Quest terminals to the Antony station of the RER B line. You need to buy the tickets at the Orlybus booth in the terminal then go up the escalator to the elevated train station.

The trains depart after every four minutes from 6 AM until 11 PM and the total travel time to central Paris is 40 minutes. Children under the age of 4 years travel free; however, those between the ages of 4 and 9 pay half the price.

Orly Airport Buses

There are many buses that transport people from the airport. The main buses are Air France Bus, Orlybus, and shuttle bus.

Air France bus is the most popular and has two lines: line 1 and line 3. Line 1 connects Sud and Quest terminals with the Gare Montparnasse Ivalides, and Etoile. The minimum travel time is 50 minutes.

Buses in line 3 run between Orly and CDG and depart after every 30 minutes and the travel time is about 1 hour 30 minutes.

The good side with these buses is that you can order your tickets online and save a lot of money. They also offer great discounts. For example, if you travel as a group of four or more adults, you pay a discounted youth fare.

Orly Airport Taxis and Shuttles

Just like there are many buses serving the airport, there are many taxis and shuttles that operate from the airport.

Taxis are usually privately owned and they charge 40-45 Euros for travel between Orly and the city center. Depending on the traffic, the journey takes between 30 and 90 minutes.

Airport shuttles are also mainly privately owned and they will take you to and from your hotel for 17-30 Euros per person. The good side with the shuttles is that you can book their services online. They also offer great discounts. For example, there are some that charge 13-32 Euros if you are travelling in a group of eight.
